Red Light, Green Light

Miami Police Chief John F. Timoney will be taking "The Show On The Road" during one of the Miami Police Department's most aggressive enforcement initiatives in its history -- Operation Red Light, Green Light.

The Operation, scheduled for Tuesday, April 4, 2005 will address pedestrian safety, speeding, traffic infractions, safety belt usage, drunk driving, school zones, etc., through education and enforcement.  Police Department Roll Calls addressing the Operation will be conducted at 6:30 am and 1:00 pm in the parking lot of the Central Shopping Plaza at 3701 NW 7 Street.

Officers and Public Service Aides will be carrying out thier proactive enforcement plan at high-incident locations throughout Miami's South District.  The South District encompasses the Flagami, Little Havana, Coral Way and Coconut Grove neighborhoods, the zones requiring the most attention due to the significant amount of fatal pedestrian and traffic crashes last year.

Chief Timoney will be available for interviews during the 1:00 pm Roll Call only.  Media riding assignments can be arranged at the Roll Call.

Operation Red Light, Green Light has been targeting jaywalking through education at community meetings, centers and target locations, as well as enforcing traffic violations since February.
